A Background in Gemology

The artist is an international scholarship recipient & graduate gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. This penchant for the science of magnificent gems and beguiling jewellery brings him around the world for his practice.

Even as a student back in the early 90's, Kylo always sought out the uncommon knowledge behind many of the world's most breathtaking crystal formations. In time, he began to learn more about the various geological events associated with the existence of these earthly wonders, pushing him to pursue a more direct specialization in the trade.
Natural, earth-mined specimens of diamond accentuate a majority of our gallery's own jewelry ensembles, together with other notable varieties of precious gemstones and fine pearls. As an artist who also involves himself with the particulars of his mediums, Kylo works with open disclosure and transparency regarding the authenticity of his gemstone materials.

GEMSTONES AND THE WORLD AROUND US

The formal study of gems and gemstone identification is called gemology. This branch of minerology and geology focuses on the important factors that make gems unique, rare and valuable. Most modern gemologists and laboratories have a specific role in the jewellery trade, which is to separate natural gemstones from blatant imitations, man-made (synthetic) counterparts and other types of lookalike items.

A GEMOLOGIST'S JOURNEY

Throughout his practice, the artist has examined and documented hundreds of extraordinary specimens of diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald from notable houses in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and other major cities around Asia.

During his travels, he has drawn great inspiration from some of the most illustrious and elusive treasures unearthed by human hands, rarities such as the 'Cullinan I'- the world's largest colorless faceted diamond, which at the time was located in Great Britain's royal treasury.

EDUCATION AT THE INSTITUTE

Pursuing a passion for furthering his knowledge in the field, he came to complete his formal studies at the Gemological Institute of America, where the focus of research was directed towards elaborate diamond grading standards, colored stone evaluation, and gemstone identity testing among other topics of similar interest. His time spent at the institute gave him a foundation within the trade, a first foothold into the captivating world of fine jewellery.

Gemological experience allows us to navigate through the sourcing of ethical, fair and properly identified gemstones for use in our practice. It also helps us to protect the certainty and authenticity of every precious jewellery item that passes through our studio and gallery boutique. All items on our online exhibit are dutifully checked using the standards and methodologies taught to graduate gemologists at the GIA.

The precious metals used in our items are also assayed and pre-checked using internationally accepted standards for purity and consistency. We only use 14 karat and 18 karat percentages for all of our gold items, as these hold the most sensible balance for both luxury investment and wear-durability purposes. Each of our staff members have also been trained to screen every item on hand for proper material integrity and esteemed quality assurance.
